"I'd rather owe it to you than cheat you out of it."

The boy's "manly" locks

For the last 17 months Andrew has lived with the same hair cut he had when he came into this world.  Well, almost the same one.  A while ago, Grandma Marti and Daddy Doug took him to the back of the house one Sunday afternoon, and gave him a little trim of the bangs so he could see.  Good enough.

However, for the most part his long, beautiful baby curls have remained undisturbed, and that has been perfectly fine with me.  But I finally got tired of Doug and Grandpa Keith's comments...  "Today at Church/at the grocery store/at the Dr. office someone told me what a cute girl we have!"  I of course never believed them: My Andrew?  A girl?  They said A GIRL!?  Clearly they were lying to me since our boy has always been dressed in fine boy clothes.  No onesies without pants.  No one piece outfits (besides his pj's at home).  Not even a single pink dot on his church tie, or weird hair-dos with gel.  But again there's no end to their complaints, so to avoid further gender confusion Andrew had his long overdue appointment with the stylist to try and shape his bushy hair a little more with touches of boy-hood.  So everyone's happy, right!?

For someone who had long curly hair (very cute, I must say) for the first 3 years of his life, Doug (literally) requested to "shave his head, or a mowhawk, crew cut... or something similar."  I went with "something similar."  I had them cut a half-inch off all around to clean up the hair a bit.  Andrew screamed and cried while they ended up taking off about 2 1/2 inches.  Doug had to hold him really tight since an scared Andrew wouldn't even respond to his sisters singing to him.  The Daddy kept him sitting on his lap while I snapped pictures, and the kid couldn't understand why I was so close yet wouldn't hold him.  The result: he put up a good fight.  What a boy, a cranky boy!

The hair dresser was very patient, and as a true professional she was able to settle the helpless crying baby afterwards with his choice of lollipop.  A minute later the trauma was forgotten as Andrew managed to get the wrapper off and stickiness all over his happy self.  Now, he sports a little guy look, a mixed between Moe Howard's straight bangs and Mathew Mcconaughey's back curls... Beautiful!

I can't wait until our next visit to the salon for a more appropriate masculine hair cut for a Taylor-style boy!  Any suggestions?

Moe + Matt = Andrew

Don't you have girls already?  Time to fit the lad with a warrior's haircut.
