For the last few years, my mother has taught my siblings and I some Spanish at the end of the day. We call her an octopus because she always handled four of us at once and try to use her time wisely, all at the same time. And with any time that's left she manages to squeeze in some language classes. So far her favorite slot to use is during our bath time, right before dinner - because everyone is in one place and naked so there's not time or room to run around. Mom always makes us repeat what we already know and adds some more if there is an spare minute between wrestling the boy and doing our hair’s shampoo. Today my two sisters were not paying very much attention to her directions and playing instead of helping with their body cleaning, so I did my share and gave them my Spanish talk:
Helena e Raquel, por favor be silencio for uno momento. Rapido! No more problemo or else, you are going to get cinto in your pequeno colitas. Be bueno and follow Mama’s orders pronto. Muchas Gracias, bonitas ninas!
I got myself out of trouble with this speech, since Mom did not even noticed that I wasn’t in my pajamas yet. Then I start humming and quietly wording my Dad’s favorite song: "Hola senorita. Como se llama? Me llamo Claire, me llamo Claire. Me gusta la biblioteca. Vivo en la casa rojo. Yo tengo dos bicicletas..." And, I walked away while singing more… La, la, la, la, la!
As you see I'd been practicing uno poquito. Adios amigos!
