Merry Christmas

Santa stopped by this year and our two "kids"  Max and Molly got to tell him exactly what they wanted to wake up and find under the tree on Christmas. The Virginia Beach Fire Department was doing a fund raiser to get money for pet oxygen masks for each of the fire trucks.  Max and Molly just wanted to help out, plus they had never been to see Santat before.

We just wanted to share this happy time with all our family.  Hope that everyone had a day as wonderful as we did.

Merry Christmas to all . . . and to all a good night.

Cooking 101

I am not a gormet chef or anything close, but I have had several request for these two things that I make.  So following a friends blog example I am posting my first recipe blog.

Wassil  (or at least Britt's virsion)

Apple Cider - usually found in the produce section

Cinnimon Sticks - about 3-4

Whole cloves - about a tbsp

Orange - sliced

1cup OJ

Place all this in a crock pot and until warm.   You can keep this warm all day long or for a long party.  If you do this you have to take out all the spices about 1 1/2 -2 hours into it being warm.  If you don't the spices get really strong and taste all most burnt.  This also makes the house smell great.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Fist we have to work on the broth (also known as chicken stock)

a whole chicken or Brad's favorite just some thighs and legs with bones - it's better for you if you remove all the skin first.

3-4 celery stocks cut up with leaves and all

2 carrots cut up

1 large onion cut up

some salt

1 tsp basil

pepper corns whole or regular pepper

parsley

2 bay leaves

2 cloves garlic unpeeled and cut in half

water to fill the pot and cover the chicken, or to make it even better fill half the pot with chicken broth then the rest with water.

Bring to boil then simmer covered for about 2-2 1/2 hours.

Remove the chicken.

Now this is the tricky part.  I use paper towels, but you can use cheese cloth if you have it.  You put this in the bottom of a strainer then pour the soup into this.  Mostly you are getting all that floats out of the broth.

Now debone the chicken and shread into bit size pieces and place back into broth.  Bring to boil then add noodles and cook per noodles instructions.  Personally I like "Reames" frozen noodles.  They are more like home made.

I have to thank first of all my mom, who taught me how to cook and always used Reames noodles in her soup.  Then the Commisary for being the only grocery store in VA Beach that has the noodles.  Next I have to thank my mother-in-law and a good friend for giving me the wassil idea.

These are some easy things that I love to make and eat.   If you decided to make them for yourself I hope you enjoy.  If you don't, maybe someday you will come over and I can make it for you.
