Left Foot Red . . .

All of you remember the game.  Some of you may actually own the game.  For anyone who wants a work out you have the perfect tool, just pull out your game of Twister and play.  Tonight I got to hang out with my nieces who wanted to see just how crazy their Aunt Brittney is.  They thought that being smaller, younger, and more flexable they could win, but they forgot just how competitive I am.  To tell you the truth I forgot how hard the game is.  I mean try standing in the bear position for a while and see how your thighs feel.  Then try telling your leg it needs to go the other way.  I mean as a kid I loved this game and thought it no big deal, now it's a real workout.   It was great fun and I think I may bring it to the next Keith Taylor Family Reunion.  Can you imagine all the "Taylor Men" competing in a game of Twister. You have to admit they don't seem to be the most flexible group of people.  Or maybe it would be fun to see just how competativie all us Taylor girls are.   Marti do you think you could be the judge of the game and Keith the spinner, or would you want in on the action?

5 Days a Week

Here is to all of you people who I like to call "normal work people. . . "  To thoes people who go to work 5 days a week every week. . .  To thoes who still figure out how to get to the doctor, bank, and other places that are only open during your working hours.  I just don't know how you do it.  You see, my whole adult life I have been in nursing at some level or another.  I have never worked 5 days a week.  Once I started a job working 4 days a week and it about killed me, so I went to my boss and asked to go back to nursing hours. Normal nursing hours for all thoes who don't know are . . .  12 hour shifts, 3 days a week.   A lot of people ask me "How do you work 12 hours? Don't you get tired?"  The way I see it is that I am already there what's another 4 hours going to hurt.  Sure when I first started it, I had a couple of weeks before I got used to it, but now 12 hours flys by (especially being a nurse).

The reason I bring all this up is because this week I have worked the last 4 days and I am wiped out.  I will say how excited I am about my new job.  The people are fun to work with and I am glad to be back on the floor and not in the procdure area.  You get to use a wider range of nursing skills on the floor.

I also wanted to say a belated Happy Birthday to Shari!!!  I am glad that you got to go skiing as your present.  I like your idea of making that your birthday present every year, I know I would.

Greuling Day at the "Office"

Today was one of the worst days in nursing I have ever had and I wasn't even preforming patient care!!!  There is this test that I had to take that took 5 hours on a computer watching videos.  Doesn't sound too bad seeing how I love to go to the movies for 2 hours and it feels like 20 minutes.  The only prolem was I don't think these videos were filmed in Hollywood, there wasn't any popcorn or soda, and the seats were not the reclining kind.  After watching these videos I had to give a diagnosis for the patient, what I would do now, what I would have to tell the MD, what orders the MD would give me, and what to expect later plus the rational for each item.  It wasn't that hard, just stressful.  This was a pass/fail test, meaining that if I didn't pass I wouldn't get the job.   Well . . . I passed!!!  Plus after the test I made some new friends, all of whom are travel nurses here in TX.  One who is like me, new to travel nursing, living with family, and who is trying to get me to run a 5K with her in May.  ( I just don't know about running for fun).  The other two have been RN's for a long time and have traveled for a long time as well.  We all went to lunch together at a Thi Restaurant, another first for me and I must say I loved it.

On a lighter note, I forgot to brag about Uno.  For thoes of you who don't know him, he is a great beagle who won the Westminster Best in Show.  This is a great feat seeing how a beagle has never won this in the history of the Westminster Dog Show.  Max and Molly just wanted to make sure I let everyone know how proud they are of their cousin.

                          Here's to Uno!!!

KS Views

Wild west it is.  After spending a few days with Brad in TX Max, Molly, and I headed north to KS to spend some time "on the farm."  Being home was great.  You have to love it when the weather report states  "tomorrow will be a sunny day with  breezy winds at 20mph."  That's when you know when you are in KS.  Spending time with family at home always seems to make me more home sick.  Does anyone else ever fell that way?  I love sitting by the fire and looking out the window at the fields and the sun.  For thoes of you who don't know, Southwest KS is a very sunny place.  Sure their are great sunsets at the beach, but they will never beat the sunsets at home in KS.   Another thing that I love is when the sun comes up after a storm as passed through the night.  Here is a picture of what I mean.

The deep bright yellow against the deep blue against the light blue is always so awsome to see.  It's even better when it is a field of wheat, but it's the wrong time of year for that.  Maybe on my next trip.  I know a lot of you have "driven through" western KS, but next time try to take in the beauty of it.

One of the other fun things about being home was seeing how my city dogs reacted to "hunting" in KS.  (No animals were hurt on this outing.  Plus I don't think Max and Molly would know what to do if they actually caught something.)  They sure do love to sniff out anything and everything.  My parents pups Snoopy and Champ taught them all the good spots to sniff.

Max loved to run and run and run while Molly just sniffed and sniffed and sniffed.

As for Brad and I well . . .  I am now back in TX today with the pups even though they really wanted stay in KS.  Brad is gearing up for deployment.  I must say I love technology and cell phones.

New Outlook on Blogging

So I know that it's been a while, ok over a month, since I have written anything.  As I look at everyone's blogs that I love to read they all talk about their kids and what thoes little ones are up to. There are no little one's running around underfoot at our house and I feel that there is nothing that I have been up to.  So . . . yesterday I was at a good friends house and we were talking about blogging and she told me to write a blog as a journal for yourself.  Of coure you can't put all the personal stuff on the wide open internet, but I am going to take her advice and just write what I am feeling or mundane things that happen to me each day.  She said, sure they may be mundane to you, but funny or facaniating to others. Plus with everything going on in the world there are a lot of things that I have an opion about.

For now I will tell you about moving.  Being a Navy wife I have gotten pretty good at it, but I must admit that I have been pampered in this area.  You see in the Navy when it's time to move these guys come to the house and go through everything putting in boxes that they bring while you sit back and watch.  Since this move is not a "Navy" move we, mostly I, have been packing up all our things.  Let me tell you if you feel your house is full of crap that you don't use just pack up all your things into storage.  I have a huge pile for trash and give away.  It has been a cleansing experience for me. It has also been a help that everything is going to be in storage for 6 or more months, due to that I have to think if what I want to keep and will be ok for that amount of time in storage.

(taken from moving.org. . . just an example of what our house looks like)

As for where we will be living. . . . Brad on the ship and me with the in-laws.   I had planned on living with my parents in KS, but the need for travel nurses in such a small town has not been lucrative.  With Marti and Keith living in the Dallas area, it's makes travel nursing very lucrative.   I am so excited to be around friends and family during Brad's deployment.  Don't get me wrong, I have tons of friends here in VA, but it's still hard to come home to a people empty house  (remeber I always had the pups to great me at the door.) Nothing will be like having Brad home, but this will be a ton better than staying here by myself.   Thanks to all of you who support us and the US Navy.
