"I'd rather owe it to you than cheat you out of it."

August 2008 - Doug and Clyde's Family

  • Snapshots from a sweet week

This week was the kick-off of the new school year and the girls enjoyed every minute of it. We miss them while they're gone but they've been ready to go back for a while now, and as the result, a new school-related adventure is unfolded everyday. Our evenings has been filled with refreshing stories from their classrooms - not that we're tired of the popular "Uncle Greg chasing Daddy" tale but... Anyways, as time passed by they're willingly giving up to their new schedule...
  • Journal Excerpts

At lunch today a friend was talking about a letter Gen. MacArthur wrote to Zippo thanking them for his fine lighter. It reminded me of Brian's journal entry containing a letter from John Garrard to U.S. Smokeless Tobacco: Dear U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., My name is Lance Corporal John Garrard. My friends and I are running desperately low on Skoal Wintergreen Long Cut. Being a part of a forward deployed infantry unit, we are cut off from any opportunity to purchase your products. The Marine Corps...

  • Our Weekend Report = Family Fun

After four weeks of being deprived of Grandma Marti's attention, all of us finally had a chance to spend time with her. Half of our family have got to see her for a couple hours a week ago but it wasn't until today that we actually "kept her all to ourselves." And we gladly report that she survived! Lunch, ice cream sandwiches for dessert, playing dress up with Grandma's outfits, some Uno and Mah-jang games (while Grandma and the boy took quick naps) filled our Sunday afternoon...

Andrew likes to listen to music with his sisters. Poor kid.

  • Lost and Found in TX

dear family, for a long, loooong time, we have this little pet dog. he is about one inch tall, tan color body with a light brown chest and beard, and no one knows if he is a boy or a girl. he has cute black eyes and a great personality. he doesn't use the bathroom very often but he looks very healthy. he is always sitting very quiet in our toys' shelves. he is smooth like a plastic figure and this should explain why he don't move and barks that much either. grandma marti sent him to our...
  • Birthday Surprise. Again!

As we told you earlier , we made a welcome home dinner for grandma Marti, and grandpa too, and left it in their fridge to be discovered on their return from their travels. What we didn't tell you is we Doug recorded it: This is what happens when you leave town and have unattended responsible and caring kids with a copy of your house key and too much time on their hands. Learn your lesson folks!

  • Eschez Move 20, Day 132

So it's been 132 days since I received Brian's last move in our game of chess. You may remember, I publicly challenged Brian to a game and he accepted. The loser of this game has to do 100 pushups on video and post it on this site. The only rule I set was no cheating. What I failed to set were any sort of time limits. Granted, he's in a bit of a bind, but you'd think by now he would have thought of something. Or maybe he has... he can't lose a game that never ends. And so I wait...

  • Happy Birthday Mom

Today our mother is 60 years old. She is beautiful, smart, and healthy. She works hard every day, serves diligently and quietly in her church callings, and provides endless love and support to all her children and grandchildren. She loves her husband and stands by him through the good and bad times. She is a rock in the storm of life - quietly and confidently trusting her core values and using that example to lift us up in times of need. I remember as a little boy in Primary singing the words "Her...

  • Have a Great Day, Cinderella!

We did not hear from her for a good while. We extremely miss her and wonder when her vacation will be done. What? Yep! She's off with her Prince Charming , first getting cozy with two of her granddaughters and then getting some fresh air at the beach with her extended family . Somewhere, she's finally charging her batteries before she gets back to normal life. In the meantime, we just wanted to send her our love and gratitude! We only wish she can come back home safe, and happy! But she'll...
  • "Lemonade. Lemonade. Get your chilly, fresh Leeeeemonade!"

This was one of the many sales pitches shouted by Claire, Helen and Rachel as loud as their lungs would allow to advertise their lemonade stand. They opened for business this past weekend, and it lasted for a whopping 4 hours! The end of summer break is just around the corner, so the chance to " do something spectacular is coming to a sad end, too," as Helen said. For a while they've been adamantly asking to have: A summer party for their friends A lemonade stand A garage sale Lucky...

  • Blog Posting Made Easy

The other day I stumbled across a program called Windows Live Writer .  It's a program that lets you create your blog posts in a more familiar word-processing type of environment, attach pictures just like you do in Word, etc. then when you click Publish, your post is published on the web site without you ever having to touch the control panel, post editor, etc.!  For example, this post has been created using Live Writer. Where this may be particularly useful is for those of you who've...

  • Adventures in Grandpa-Land

After spending a fun couple hours with Uncle Brad, the girls' lucky day wasn't over yet. Grandpa Keith invited them to stay overnight! And of course they said yes before he could even finish the offer. We all had a delicious brisket and corn dinner, then we were shown the door while they got ready for their slumber party. It's a fun tradition when Grandma is away: another Grandpa-granddaughters date in the works! Doug picked them up first thing in the morning, and they were all smiles...
  • "... And please, bless our Uncle Brad in the Navy "

"...so that he can come back SAFE and SOUND." This has been a regular part of our daily prayers for the last couple years, and sure enough he came back! We were lucky to see Brad (finally) this past Monday, at the Grandparents' house. The girls got to spend some alone time with him and while giggling they reported, "He's a cool Uncle: tall as a building, handsome like Daddy, and he didn't shoot at us!" Brad let the girls hang out with him while he was packing for his...
